About winter sports

   The Winter Olympics is a series of world-wide competitions in winter sports. It has been held by the International Olympic Committee every 4 years since 1924 (it was not held in 1940, 1944). In 1908 and 1920, ice skating was included in the program of the Olympic Games, and in 1920, ice hockey. Biathlon, bobsleigh, curling, ice skating (500 m to 10,000 m race, figure skating), sledding, skiing, and ice hockey competitions are held at the Winter Olympics. 

Skiing-is a winter sport. It includes cross-country skiing, ski jumping, biathlon (racing and jumping), alpine skiing and biathlon. Skiing was formed as a sport in Norway. In 1767, the first competition among military personnel was held in this country, and since 1843, public competitions have been organized. Later, skiing became popular in other European countries. In 1910, the International Skiing Commission was established and the rules of skiing were approved. 
     This commission was transformed into the International Skiing Federation (FlS) in 1924. Currently, more than 100 countries (Uzbekistan since 1993) are members of this federation (2004). Skiing has been included in the program of the Olympic Games since 1924, and the world championship has been held since 1925 (every two years since 1937). Since the 70s of the 20th century, the development of skiing, mainly mountain sports, began in Uzbekistan. More than 300 people are engaged in skiing in the republic. 17 coaches teach skiing to 196 children and teenagers in 2 specialized ski sports schools (2004). Brothers and sisters Kamil and Elmira Orinboyeva, leading skiers such as Vladimir Yunusov are participants of prestigious competitions.
